Nothing wrong with a good pep talk ( from yourself )

STOP THE BUSS !

I have read many books on stress, anxieties, and panic. The best by far that I came across is From Panic to Power by Lucinda Bassett.

In the book she covers a lot of different aspects of panic. The one I use the most is:

Talk to yourself Nice……

This is how it works.

When you are having a panic attack . Most of us scare our self more then help our self in our heads.

When having a panic attack we think everyone notices, then we proceed to scare our self even more by thinking of all the different ways we will embarrass our self.

Example :Lord help me, if I have to scream stop the bus in front of all these people and get out !

What the book teaches you is to talk nice to your self in your head..

Yes, I’m having a panic attack. NO, I’m not going to lose my mind.

Think about it. You have had many panic attacks before you got here to this site. It has not hurt you. Chances are people haven’t even noticed you have them.

Now, on the bus. Have you ever noticed someone having a panic attack on the bus ? probably not. Chances are though, you have sat next to someone while they were having one.

And last, What if you did scream “Stop the Bus” or asked the bus too stop to let you out ? what would happen ?

Nothing. The worst that would happen is you would be waiting for another bus.

I have notice, when I stop scaring myself and really think about it. I can better handle my panic attack. This in turn makes the panic attack not last as long and not feel so out of control. Be nice to your self when you are panicky. Don’t make it worse by thinking about all the bad scenarios.

I found a lot of strength in this book to use, so I highly recommend it ! This was just a small part of the book that really has helped me. ( example is my own spin on the technique ).

I would love to hear from you and what books you have found to help you the most !

Thank you for reading !
