Exercise: Does it really help with Anxiety ?

Well, I’m sure you have heard (just like me, a hundred times). Working out is great for your body.

But, have you heard that exercising more can reduce your anxiety ? I have run into this answer to anxiety and panic attacks more then just a few times.

So, being the kinda person to pretty much try anything once. ( for a little less panic in my life ).. I had to give it a try for myself.

I really had to work, to make this happen. Making time to sweat isn’t easy. I have a busy schedule and lots of good distractions. All-in-all this is how, I made it work for me.

I bought a elliptical, this machine works out both the arms and the legs. I had & have no time for going to a gym ( not to mention it cost way to much and would take twice the time in driving & prep) . I placed my wonder machine, in front of the TV ( turned on CSI for a good pain distraction ) and went on to get my anti-anxiety groove ON.

At first, I was just down right tired, I couldn’t go very long and I had far to many sore muscles for such a small amount of time on the workout beast. My first impression was, I just spent 200 dollars for a beast that is going to sit in the corner collecting dust !

BUT…….What happened after, is what changed my mind.

I flopped in the bed and went straight to sleep. This too me was Amazing. I’m one of those people that have a hard time going to sleep ( my brain just doesn’t want to shut down ). Working out for half of CSI made me TIRED ! when I hit the bed, I was OUT ! IT was truly a miracle for me to get in the bed and go to sleep, without effort ( If you have this problem you know, how frustrating it can be to lay there ). I was hooked for this dramatic change itself.

So, my routine is work out with my favorite TV show, take a nice hot shower and Hit the bed !

What has working out done for my anxiety in the long run ?…

If I were a doctor I would have a better psychological & physical answer to that….. But alas, I am not. I can only tell you what it has done for me.

My body feels good. I know, I feel less body stress ( less tense ). I’m not sure if it is psychological or physical but when I have anxiety, I have less body tension. I can control my breathing better. I feel stronger mind & body. I don’t get antsy as much during the day. I sleep better ! I have more good energy ( not the high anxious feeling ).

And Last:

It just feels Damn good too be doing something That makes me feel stronger !

Does exercise help anxiety ? To me …YES

I would love to hear your thoughts on working out and anxiety !
